Acronyms and abbreviations used by writers

Is your WIP a MG with an angsty MC? Is your MS ready to send to a CP? Or maybe you submitted last year, but your SASE has not come back to you and it’s time to SQ?

Here’s a short list of acronyms & abbreviations you’ll come across on blogs and message boards about writing (some of these specifically pertain to writing for children):

MC = Main Character

ARC = Advanced Reader Copy

SQ = Status Query

CP = Crit (critique) Partner

WIP = Work In Progress

MS = Manuscript (mss=manuscripts)

POV =Point of View

SASE = Self Addressed Stamped Envelope

IRC = International Reply Coupon

EZ (sometimes ER) = Easy Reader                

PB = Picture Book

MG = Middle Grade (novel) 

YA = Young Adult (novel)

NF = Non-fiction

Hi-Lo = High Interest, Low Reading Level

NIV = Novel in verse
